The Knitted Knockers are breast prostheses that are handmade and knitted or crochetted and given for free to breast cancer patients who have undergone a mastectomie.
The concept is orginated from the United States. This worlwide initiative has been created by Barabra Desmond, founder of KnittedKnockers.org. The orignal patterns are used worldwide by volonteer knitters and crocheters all over the world. The knitted knocker can be a temporary solution shortly after the surgery, an interesting alternative to the Silicone prostheses and for many a definitive solution.
Knitted Knockers are comfortable breastsprotheses made of 100% coton. We only use mercerised cotton for its softness and because it is sweatabsorbant. This allows the prostheses to be worn shortly after the surgery.
The prostheses are custom made. They are filled with 100% new material polyester, who allows the prosthesis to remain in shape after laundry.
The prostheses can be worn in almost every bra type, whether they are classical- or sports bras, and in specific designed bras for carrying external breastsprostheses.
In Belgium, volonteers are knitting or crocheting breastprostheses in cotton and give them for free to breastcancer patients that have undergone a mastectomy.
You can also make them on your own by using the KnittedKnockers.org patterns that you will find below.
You can participate as a knitter or crocheter in an existing group.
You can create also a new group of volonteers.
You can also thanks to your other skills, help the organising team.
You offer what suits you the best, your time, your talents...
